The challenge
The esports news landscape was fragmented, with fans having to visit multiple sources to stay updated on their favorite games and tournaments. I identified an opportunity to create a centralized platform that would aggregate real-time gaming news, tournament results, and community discussions. The primary goals were to deliver fast, reliable content updates while building an engaged community of esports enthusiasts. Performance was crucial given the real-time nature of esports events and the need to handle traffic spikes during major tournaments.
Article Page Design
The article page is the heart of SheepEsports, where users consume gaming news and esports content. I designed an engaging layout that prioritizes readability while incorporating social features like comments, reactions, and sharing. The responsive design ensures optimal viewing across all devices, from mobile to desktop, maintaining the platform's performance standards.
Platform Analytics & Growth
SheepEsports achieved remarkable growth, reaching over 600,000 monthly active users with an average engagement time of 1 minute 10 seconds per session. The platform consistently maintains 671K views and 3.1M events monthly, demonstrating strong user engagement. Analytics show excellent user retention with 293 active users in the last 30 minutes and high user stickiness rates, proving the platform's value to the esports community.
Tech Stack & Infrastructure
SheepEsports is built on a modern, scalable architecture designed to handle high traffic and real-time content delivery. The platform leverages Next.js for the frontend, providing server-side rendering and optimal performance. Firebase handles real-time data synchronization and user authentication, while Sanity CMS manages content creation and updates. The infrastructure is deployed on Vercel for instant global deployment, with Google Cloud services powering backend operations and Google Ads driving targeted user acquisition.
For advertising partnerships, I worked directly with major brands including Winamax and Holy to integrate their advertisement campaigns seamlessly into the platform. This involved custom ad placement optimization and performance tracking to maximize both user experience and advertiser ROI.
